Infant Mortality Rate
the number of deaths among children under one year of age per 1,000 live births. The indicator is used as a general indicator of the nutritional and health status of the population. Currently, the Government is making some progress in reducing the infant mortality rate. The 2003 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS, 2003) shows that infant mortality rate in the past 10 years has shown a decreasing trend, from 34 death per 1,000 live births in 1993 to 29 deaths per 1,000 live births 2003.
