Under the microscope
In a speech at the Philippine Economic Briefing at Dusit Hotel in Makati City this morning, Sec. Ralph Recto urged the public to take a closer look at infrastructure projects to minimize anomalies. He said that projects under the economic resiliency plan have long gestation periods which gives greater latitude for ordinary citizens to scrutinize contract details.
"Because these projects will take longer gestation periods, there is more time for the public to scrutinize them, to shield them from anomalies. Here is a window to open up contract details in public works. Governance is a public concern, so let us turn this crisis into an opportunity for greater transparency," he said.
