Children’s folk festival highlights Children’s Month
San Jose, Antique – Dances and songs filled the air this October as children from different schools in the province conducted folk festival in celebration of the Children’s month.

It is important that we provide opportunities for children to express their views and opinions on issues affecting them through creative presentation anchored on the province’ cultural context. Local artists have organized series of children’s workshops on dance, choral and song writing and drama in preparation for the event, said Juliana Cepe, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Cepe.

Proclamation No. 267 mandates the celebration of National Children’s Month every October in recognition of the Filipino children as the most valuable asset of the nation. This year’s theme “Karapatan Nasa’yo, Isigaw sa buong Mundo!” aply emphasized the right of children to express their views and opinions on matters that affect them, the source said.

Among the activities in the month-long celebration were Medical Mission for children in barangays Linaban, and Igpanulong of Hamtic and Sibalom, respectively. These barangays are recipients of projects under the Country Program for Children. Highlighting the celebration is the presentation of the State of the Children’s Report by Governor Salvacion Z. Perez.

The Provincial Child Friendly Movement Team urged all child rights duty bearers, the local officials, parents, educators and communities to support the 15th National Children’s Month celebration by conducting information dissemination activities and organizing community programs to make people aware of the celebration. Outreach activities for children include medical mission and the conduct of training/seminars to enhance child participation.

he local councils for the protection of children both at the municipal and barangay levels which are the frontliners in child rights advocacy were likewise encouraged to come up with similar activities to highlight the children’s month celebration.(PS Mabaquiao/PIA)
