UPGRADING OF THE SABUTAN LEAVES PROCESSING FOR CRAFTS PRODUCTION
Aurora Hats and Crafts is one of the leading processors of sabutan grass. This grass is an indigenous material found in the Province of Aurora. It is mainly processed into different handicraft products such as bags, hats and mats, which are in demand in the export market.

WOOD KILN DRYER (FURNACE TYPE)
The Country Accents, Inc. sources out kiln-dried wood from nearby provinces, however, the company can hardly compete in the export market, in 2002, due to the increasing cost of kiln-dried wood. Moreover, the company was attracted to the extra income from the selling of kiln-dried wood to wood furniture manufacturers that are co-members in the Chamber of Furniture Industry of the Philippines, Inc. - Pampanga Chapter.

INSTALLATION OF DUST COLLECTOR AND ACQUISITION OF ADDITIONAL MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT
Dust is a prevalent health hazard to people in the Furnitureville, Inc. It hinders productivity of people and causes considerable amount of losses to the company. In 2002, the company reported an opportunity lost amounting to P3 to P3.6 million by refusing additional orders for fear of inability to deliver on time. Aside from this, it shoulders the medical expenses of its employees who are forced to be absent due to health hazards.

ESTABLISHMENT OF A FURNACE TYPE LUMBER DRYER
In 2001, Walch Furniture and Home Furnishing experienced cracking and warping of finished furniture due to improperly dried raw materials causing more than P6 million losses in a year. This amount accounted to product rejects from about 20% of the furniture sold in the local market and 50% from the export market. Aside from this, the company also spends an additional P5 per bd-ft for the re-drying of kiln-dried wood which was not guaranteed to meet the varying standard moisture content of wood in different countries.

INCREASING PRODUCTIVITY THRU AN EFFECTIVE CENTRALIZED DUST COLLECTING SYSTEM
In 2003, the sawdust from the milling and machining sections of the MTC (More Than a Chair, Inc.) caused problems in the production area thereby affecting its productivity and the efficiency of workers. In line with DOST's contribution to the directive of PGMA to help MSMEs, MTC was able to acquire a P937,000.00 financial assistance through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) to help finance the fabrication and installation of a Centralized Dust Collecting System (CDCS) worth P1.664 million.
